Périgord vert is a rural hilly region, dotted with authentic villages around Romanesque castle churches. These offers a beautiful destination for those who want to tour the region by bike or car and soak up the atmosphere of authentic French villages. Within cycling distance of Chassaignes the main attraction is the picturesque little town of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne with an impressive and unique "church" carved out of the rocks. The town is rightly included in the list of the Plus Beaux Village de France. There are lovely streets for strolling, terraces, little shops ... Aubeterre is situated on a hill along the river ... Dronne, o there is also opportunity for swimming or kayaking.

Nearby by car you have the small but fine Bourdeilles (small but with several castles) and the more touristic little town of Brantôme, the so-called "Venice of Périgord". A little further on you'll find Saint-Jean-de-Côle, a small medieval village that also belongs to "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France".

Dordogne has a limestone soil and therefore it has many caves, including several with prehistoric paintings. Many of our guests visited the caves of Villars, 13km from Brantôme and returned enthusiastically. The information on site is also available in English and in summer there is children's entertainment in the prehistoric garden.

The Romanesque Saint-Front cathedral in Périgueux is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is crowned with 5 mighty stone domes and a bell tower. Recently, a secure route has been set up over the roofs and between the domes, with views that are undoubtedly mighty.

Bergerac, city of art and history, but of course also of wine. The historic centre is a maze of streets and squares, terraces, shops,... In the maison des vins you can find out everything about the Bergerac wines or you can sail the Dordogne by gabare. Wednesday and Saturday are market days.

You can explore the city by means of a smartphone app that will take you past various life-size comic strip scenes / murals. Lascaux, the centre of prehistoric art, is known worldwide for its cave with prehistoric murals. The original cave is closed to the public, but was reconstructed in the centre using identical techniques, materials and images. The visitor centre is a contemporary experience museum that makes use of 3D videos, tablets,... to better understand prehistoric art. And for those who like architecture: Lascaux IV would be worthwhile for this as well.
